TDOT And THP Prepare For Holiday Travel Season

Holiday Message Board Campaign, Lane Closure Suspensions Among Strategies

  • Monday, November 23, 2015

TDOT’s Region 2 Office and THP’s District 2 Office – both headquartered in Chattanooga - have joined forces to prepare for the holiday travel season.  In an effort to have zero fatalities during this year’s busy travel season, TDOT has deployed portable message boards throughout the region displaying safety messages as part of the TDOT/THP Holiday Message Board Campaign. Additionally, overhead dynamic message signs will be used to display safety messages.

By using 18 portable message boards in all 12 counties within THP’s Chattanooga district and 27 overhead dynamic message signs, a total of 45 signs will be dedicated to the campaign during the 2015 holiday season.

Additionally, TDOT will halt all lane closure activity on interstates and state highways in anticipation of higher Thanksgiving holiday traffic volumes across the state.  Over a million Tennesseans are expected to travel by automobile during this year’s Thanksgiving period.  Because of this, all construction related lane closures will be stopped beginning at noon on Wednesday through 6 a.m. Monday, Nov. 30.
