A Classic Christmas 2014
Lee University’s School of Music will present its 26th annual “A Classic Christmas” on Sunday, Dec. 6, at 3 p.m. in the Conn Center.
“This year’s program has involved quite a bit of work from a large number of students in the School of Music over the past three months,” said Dr. Jonathan Rodgers, director of Ladies of Lee and Choral Union. “The team of ensemble directors has made every attempt to bring together a variety of sounds of the season, and I believe the audience will be moved as they hear this wonderful array of Christmas music.”
This year’s concert will feature Lee’s Choral Union, Lee University Symphony Orchestra, directed by Robert Berhardt, Lee University Chorale, directed by Dr. William Green, and Brass Choir, directed by Dr. Nathan Warner.
Making its return after a 20-year hiatus, the Lee Handbells, directed by Laud Vaught, will also perform at “A Classic Christmas.” The group formed in the mid-1980s and continued until 1993 under the direction of Bertha Gugler, a member of the music department from 1967 to 1993.
An all-male choir from Chattanooga, InSpirit, will also join the program. The choir consists of various community members. In 2010, the choir partnered with the Morriston RFC Male Chorus from Wales. Together, the two groups toured England and Wales and performed in places such as Salisbury Cathedral.
“A Classic Christmas” will include a variety of sacred and secular Christmas music, ranging from Christmas carol sing-a-longs, John Rutter’s “Gloria,” and song selections by John Williams from the movie, “Home Alone.”
“We look forward to seeing the Cleveland and Chattanooga community in attendance as we offer this gift on behalf of Lee University,” said Dr. Rodgers.
Tickets are free but are required due to limited seating. Tickets will be available at the Dixon Center box office, open Monday-Friday, 3-6 p.m. They can also be reserved by calling 614-8343.
