UTC Names Englehardt As Marketing And Communication Chancellor

UTC Chancellor Steve Angle announced that Kirk Englehardt has accepted the position of vice chancellor for Marketing and Communication at the university. Mr. Englehardt comes to UTC from Georgia Institute of Technology where he serves as director of Research Communications.

“The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga is a university on the rise,” said Mr. Englehardt. “There is a real opportunity to define UTC’s brand and to have a tangible impact on the university and the community.”

In his new position at UTC, Mr.
Englehardt will lead the university’s public relations, advertising, marketing and branding programs as well as video production and WUTC.

Mr. Englehardt has served as Georgia Tech’s first executive-level communicator accountable for building a comprehensive research communication and marketing program. In this position, he aligned the communication activities of 6 colleges, 29 schools, and 9 research institutes as well as units focused on research administration, economic development, and industry collaboration. He had previously served as senior director of Communication for the Georgia Tech Research Institute where he was responsible for internal and external strategic marketing and communication, media relations, executive communication, crisis communication, and creative services.

“Kirk’s experience and strengths align with the needs of our campus. He has success building and establishing marketing and communication programs that incorporate faculty, student, and staff involvement to build the campus’s local, regional and national reputation,” said Mr. Angle. “His leadership will support and benefit our efforts in student recruitment, philanthropy and branding our campus.”

Prior to his roles at Georgia Tech, Mr. Englehardt held positions with the Georgia Department of Education and the Broward County, Fl. Public Schools. He also has experience in crisis communication as a media relations specialist with the Broward County Sheriff’s Office. He served as a news reporter and anchor for WIOD Newsradio in Miami.

Mr. Englehardt holds a bachelor’s degree in communication from Florida State University and a master’s degree in public administration from Florida Atlantic University.

Mr. Englehardt will assume his new responsibilities on Jan. 5, 2016. He and his wife Cindy are the parents of two sons, Gavin and Liam.
