I was down at the Riverfront recently and drove past the construction site for the re-re-renovation of the 21st Century Waterfront, before turning up beside the Aquarium towards Ice on the Landing. I had heard all about the ice skating rink from last year and the overwhelming success that 2014 brought. So much success, that they had to increase the rink size to accommodate the crowds.
This is a great thing for Chattanooga's beautiful riverfront. While I was passing, I couldn't help but notice though, that this attraction looked more like the construction site around the corner than a premier Chattanooga attraction.
From visiting the Ice on the Landing website, it would appear that Volkswagen was the lead sponsor, among many others, but visiting the site we see industrial storage tanks filled with some chemicals and a large grey box with United Rentals proudly displayed.
A successful venture like Ice on the Landing should embrace the beauty and pride of the Chattanooga river front and dress up their site for the two months that they are the centerpiece.
I wish them continued success in bringing a unique experience to town. Now that we have the bigger rink, let's plan to pretty up the attraction to better meld with Chattanooga's current image.
