WTCI Debuts New Greater Chattanooga Episode About Variable, Inc.

  • Friday, February 13, 2015

WTCI has released a new installment in the Greater Chattanooga series, premiering online Friday, sponsored by EPB and the local office of UBS Financial Services.  Variable, Inc. has created a sensor platform that allows users to precisely monitor temperature, color, motion and much more with an affordable handheld device. This wireless sensor will allow consumers to make smarter decisions faster, said officials.

Greater Chattanooga is a short film series that explores the people and ideas that "make us all more aware, happier, and stronger as a community."  The startup community in Chattanooga is booming and WTCI, Chattanooga's community PBS station, has created The Leap, exploring the joys and challenges of startups and entrepreneurs in the community. In this story, the host, James Chapman, talks to the team at Variable, Inc.

Viewers can find these online videos both through wtciTV.org and a new site, greaterchattanooga.org. Because so many people watch videos on their phones and tablets via YouTube and Facebook, the videos will be there as well. Viewers can watch on their HD televisions using products like Apple TV and Roku by using the free PBS app.

WTCI broadcast viewers enjoy interstitials that preview these stories throughout the broadcast schedule, followed by a message directing them to see the complete films online at greaterchattanooga.org. Later this year, the short films will be collected in a new half-hour broadcast where viewers will see a variety of topics addressed, including arts and culture, business, news and public affairs and much more.

The premiere Greater Chattanooga segment explored the first ever Chattanooga Mini Maker Faire. Celebrating that knowledge is most powerful when it's shared, makers from the greater Chattanooga area convened for the first annual Chattanooga Mini Maker Faire and this short film celebrated the joy and empowerment of the maker movement.

Paul Grove, president and CEO of WTCI, says, “Viewers have come to expect quality programming from WTCI and our team has created a series that truly captures the passion and innovation that makes this community so unique. This is a bold new vision captures Chattanooga's unique stories and delivers them in a way that today's consumers want; on-air, online and on demand.”
