Barbara Sacks Bohn, a native of Chattanooga and an active volunteer for many years in the community, died on the evening of Wednesday, February 18, 2015. She was 75.

More than anything, Barbara loved her family. Her husband of more than 52 years, Jerry, and her children Kevin and Lisa, were by her side, and her grandchildren, Eve and Noah, were always in her heart.

Barbara graduated from City High in 1957 and then went on to major in social work at the University of Georgia. Her deep commitment to helping others led to her eventual work with the Red Cross at Fort Benning, Georgia and later, at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. After meeting and marrying Jerry, Barbara worked with the State of Kentucky to place children in adoptions.

In 1969, Barbara returned to Chattanooga, where she served over the years in various leadership roles with the Jewish women’s group Hadassah, including co-President. She was active in and loved her synagogue, B’nai Zion, where she had been a member since her youth. Over the last decade, she also took great joy and actively participated in the Brainerd Kiwanis Club and its commitment to helping society.

In addition to her family, Barbara adored her friends. A social worker at her core, she cherished reaching out to people, making them feel special --- with a warm smile and an open heart. She also loved animals, especially birds, mysteries both in novels and on television, and drawing. She was a gracious hostess and had a special touch of adding beauty around her. She was loved  by many and will be missed immensely.

Barbara was the daughter of the late Mose and Mildred Sacks and was preceded in death by her twin sister, Betty Sacks Fram.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Jerry, son Kevin Bohn, daughter, Lisa Robitshek, son-in-law, Andy Robitshek and grandchildren, Eve and Noah Robitshek.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at B’nai Zion Synagogue, 114 McBrien Road. The funeral will be followed by a graveside service and then a meal of condolence back at the synagogue.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to B’nai Zion Synagogue (Rabbi’s Discretionary Fund) http://www.bnaizioncongregation.com/bz-Contributions.htm,  the Brainerd Kiwanis Club PO Box 8668, Chattanooga, TN 37414, or the Jewish Federation of Greater Chattanooga, 5461 North Terrace Rd. Chattanooga, TN 37411.

Arrangements are by Advantage Funeral Home, 1724 McCallie Ave., 423 265-4414.
