Freedoms Foundation Has Awards Ceremony Saturday

  • Tuesday, February 24, 2015

The Freedoms Foundation will hold its national awards ceremony and general membership reception on Saturday at 1 p.m.  The event will be at the Harrison Ruritan Club, 5709 Tyner Lane, next to Harrison Elementary School. President Larry Henry invites the public to attend.

The ceremony will include food and fellowship to support patriotism and good citizenship.  The agenda includes celebrating the 45th anniversary of the chapter and the 55th anniversary of the national organization.

The meet and greet will begin at 1 p.m. and at 2 p.m. will be the presenting of 2015 Outstanding Citizenship Awards.

If planning to attend, contact Patsy Henry at 894-6269, or e-mail: patsyhenry@hotmail.com or Betty Parker at 894-5322 or e-mail: parkerrealty@mindspring.com.

The chapter sends 15-20 high school juniors to participate in the Spirit of America Leadership Summit at Valley Forge. It has several fundraisers to help pay the expenses of the students. Some of the other events are participating in the Chattanooga Armed Forces Day Parade, attending naturalization ceremonies for new citizens, laying Christmas wreaths at the National Cemetery, and giving awards to local citizens who have provided outstanding service to the community.

The Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge is a National not for profit, non-partisan, non- sectarian educational organization founded in 1949.  President Dwight Eisenhower served as its first chairman and chairman emeritus until his death in 1969.  The Chattanooga Chapter was organized in 1969.
