George Grant
George Allan Grant, 91, of Hixson, Tennessee, died on Thursday, February 5, 2015.
George was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church in Chattanooga. He was an automotive engineer who came to this area to work for Ernest Holmes. Former board member of the NFB and president of the Chattanooga Chapter of the ATHS. George was a longtime member of Hamilton County Rescue Squad. He served in the United States Army during WWII where he worked as a truck driver and pontoon bridge builder. George had the gift of teaching his children and grandchildren about science, nature and the art of telling jokes.
George was preceded in death by his wife, June W. Grant; and parents, Allan and Alice Grant.
George is survived by Caroline (Eddie) Grant Owensby; grandson, Christopher (Rachael) Welch; granddaughter, Alexandra Owensby; great-grandchildren, Elijah Alan, Ezekiel Scot and Emmeline Grace Welch and special friends, Winston, Isabella Rose, Simon and Bonnie girl.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Amedisys Hospice, especially Misty, Sarah, Olivia, Bob, Ricky for treating us all with love and kindness.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, Feb. 10, from 12-1 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 554 McCallie Ave, Chattanooga, Tn. 37402.
A celebration of life will be conducted 1 p.m. on Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Chris Ehlers officiating.
Interment will follow to Chattanooga National Cemetery.
Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson.
