1N3 Returns To Washington Alternative Learning Center To Promote “Smart Choices”

  • Thursday, March 12, 2015

The local nonprofit organization “1N3” presented at Washington Alternative Center on Wednesday. The mission of 1N3 is to raise awareness of drug and alcohol use, specifically the consequences of driving while intoxicated. According to statistics, one in three Americans will be impacted by drunk driving, or will be involved in an alcohol related crash in our lifetime.

The organization started in memory of a young man named Kevin who died as a result of a car crash; the other driver’s B.A.C.

level was three times the legal limit. During 1N3’s presentations, both Kevin’s mother and the woman who was responsible for his death share their stories about the fateful night. They share their stories in an effort to help young people decide to make smart choices. “This presentation really challenge’s our students to think before they make a decision that could ultimately affect their entire life”, said Mr. Jeffrey Thompson, Art teacher at WALC.

Students and staff alike were emotionally moved by their story of pain and forgiveness and thanked 1N3 for their visit today. Deputy Jake Thomas, Washington’s SRO, noted that “the students all seemed captivated by the presentation last year so we had to invite them back to share their valuable message with our students.”

1N3 has three main areas of focus: Drug and Alcohol Awareness, Addiction Recovery, and Grief Recovery.
