Habitat For Humanity Hosts Raise The Roof April 17

  • Tuesday, March 24, 2015

Humanity of Greater Chattanooga Area is hosting its annual Spring Benefit, Raise the Roof, on Friday, April 17 at 5:30 p.m. at the Chattanooga Marriott Downtown. Claude Jeudy, national director of Habitat for Humanity Haiti, will be the keynote speaker.

Mr. Jeudy will travel to the Scenic City to personally extend appreciation to Habitat for Humanity of Greater Chattanooga Area as well as to other partnering agencies and organizations that have given their time, energy, financial resources to help rebuild Haiti after the devastating earthquake that hit the country in 2010.

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Chattanooga Area was able to provide supplies and resources to support the construction of 24 homes in Haiti over the past five years through Habitat for Humanity’s Tithe program. The cost to build these homes, which also covered an extensive community engagement process, providing access to water and sanitation, and training, is equivalent to constructing one Habitat for Humanity home in Chattanooga.

“With the generous support we have received from around the world, Habitat Haiti has been able to serve more than 55,000 families impacted by the devastating 2010 earthquake that left 1.5 million people homeless,” said Mr. Jeudy. “We are deeply indebted to Habitat for Humanity of Greater Chattanooga Area and others who have prayed for us, volunteered their time and provided financial support. So many individuals, churches and organizations, including Habitat for Humanity, in the greater Chattanooga area, have been extremely instrumental in helping Haitian families secure decent, safe and affordable housing.”

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Chattanooga was able to provide support to Haiti and other countries over the years through Habitat for Humanity International’s Tithe program. Through the program, Habitat affiliates in the US are encouraged to donate 10 percent of all unrestricted cash donations each year to further the organization’s work in other countries. Habitat currently has a presence in approximately 70 countries.

"Through the Tithe program, Habitat affiliates are not only eliminating poverty housing in their own communities, but also in communities around the world," officials said. "Locally, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Chattanooga Area’s corporate partners, volunteers, and families have built 250 homes providing more than 1,000 women, men, and children with the joy and security of Habitat homeownership."

The evening will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a cocktail reception and silent auction followed by dinner.  Entertainment will provided by The Power Players at 7:30 p.m. Tickets to Raise the Roof are $100 and tables (seating 8) are $600. To purchase tickets, tables, or to learn more about corporate sponsorships, call 423-756-0507 or visit www.habichatt.org.
