Marvin Edwin West, 77, of Athens, TN and formally of Cleveland, TN, passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2015.
Marvin was born on June 1, 1937 to the late Charlie & Ruby West. He was of the Baptist faith and served as pastor to several churches since 1970. Marvin had served 4 years at Tellico Avenue, 13 years at New Liberty, 8 years at New Hope, 2 years at Fairview, 5 years at The Way of the Cross and also sang for 9 years with the Travel Airs gospel group.
In addition to his parents, Marvin was also preceded in death by one sister, Bonnie West.
Marvin is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 60 plus years, Wilma Beck West; one daughter, Linda Adams and her husband Sam of Benton, TN; one son, Joe West and his wife Teresa of Cleveland; five grandchildren, Angela & Brent Davis, Melissa & Brent Ellis, Josh & Amanda West and Jake West all of Cleveland and Tommy & Crystal Sledge of Athens; 11 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Polly West of Athens, TN, Louise Fairfield of Cleveland, Jina & Doug Thompson of Benton; and several nieces, nephews, other extended family members and special friends.
A celebration of his life is planned for Sunday, March 29 at 3 p.m. at the East Cleveland Baptist Church located at 1145 Arnold Street NE in Cleveland, TN with the Reverend James Vaughn, the Reverend Joe Lockman and the Reverend Mike Couch officiating. Interment will follow in the Lebanon Baptist Church Cemetery with his grandsons serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends on Saturday night, March 28 at the church from 5-8 p.m. and also on Sunday, March 29 from 1-2 p.m.
