Chattanooga Soccer Nets Win, Tie At King Spring Invitational

  • Saturday, March 28, 2015
BRISTOL, Tenn. --- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's soccer team came away with a 2-1 victory over Carson-Newman and a 1-1 draw against host King University in a pair of scrimmages at the King Spring Invitational Saturday afternoon.

Junior Skylar Brewer (Farragut, Tenn.) scored the Mocs first goal against Carson-Newman and sophomore Hailey Callis (Jackson, Mo.) notched the game winner in Chattanooga's first test of the spring season under first-year head coach Gavin McKinney.

In the match against King, Brewer again scored first for the Mocs, but a strike from freshman Abby Linder (Germantown, Tenn.) with 20 seconds remaining would have sealed the victory for UTC.
However, it was thwarted with a great save by the King keeper to preserve the tie.

"There are a lot of positives to take from the day," McKinney said. "It served as a great learning experience for us as a squad going forward."

The Mocs will travel to Huntsville, Ala., next weekend for a scrimmage against UAH on Satruday.
