Late Inning Offense Leads Columbia State Past Cleveland State

The Columbia State Chargers scored five runs in the eighth securing an 8-3 victory over Cleveland State Cougars Sunday afternoon. 

The Cougars and Columbia State (27-13, 16-5) were tied at three after seven innings until Chargers centerfielder Chase Carder started the five run rally hitting a two run home run in the eighth. 

Columbia State's Austin Reynolds earned the victory pitching the final four innings allowing one earned run on one hit with six strike outs and two walks. 

Third baseman Chris Caffrey drove in two of the Cougars three runs on a solo home run and sacrifice fly. 

Cleveland State (19-17, 6-14) plays next at Tusculum College JV in a double header this Wednesday with first pitch scheduled for 4 p.m.
