TDOT crews on Monday afternoon finished clearing a rock slide that closed one lane of Highway 64 in Polk County early Sunday morning.

Both lanes were open shortly after 4 p.m.

Jennifer Flynn of TDOT said, "The location was near log mile 13, which is roughly two miles east of Madden’s Branch and several miles west of the big slide we had in 2009.

"Crews worked yesterday on breaking up the rocks for removal.  During this time, they flagged traffic.  There was never a time that the roadway was completely closed.  They ceased operations at 7 p.m. yesterday.

At that point, most of the loose material had been pulled to the bottom of the slope.

"Because there was still a possibility for a relatively small amount of material to fall during a rain event, they built a berm out of the material that remained in the westbound lane to catch any new material that might fall.  TDOT personnel were onsite throughout the night to monitor the slide area and to flag traffic.

"Today, our crews worked on scaling the slope of loose material and cleaning up the roadway."
