Clean & Green Is This Saturday At Miller Plaza

The Chattanooga Department of Transportation (CDOT) is addressing barriers to make streets safer and convenient to all road users as called for in the mayors' Challenge for Safer People and Safer Streets. 

Organizers said, "Join CDOT’s Results Action Team and Bike Chattanooga in cleaning bike lanes this Saturday.  As part of the Downtown Chattanooga’s annual Clean and Green cleanup event, we are leading a team that will clean bike lanes. The event starts at 8 a.m. at Miller Plaza, 850 Market Street, with a complimentary breakfast and volunteer freebies. Look for the CDOT and Bike Chattanooga crew.  We’ll gather supplies and get to work."

About the Mayors’ Challenge

Mayor Berke pledged support of the USDOT’s recently launched Mayors’ Challenge for Safer Streets.  Chattanooga Department of Transportation staff chairs three Action Teams to improve access for all users and educate about the safe ways to move around in our city. The public can pledge their time and energy towards this effort and join an action team by contacting CDOT at (423) 643-5950.

Neighborhood Action Team: Participate in CDOT complete streets project public meetings, provide input for the online Bike Implementation Plan, and help with community outreach.

Results Action Team: Report “bite-sized” barriers for citizens using our public streets and sidewalks and tack project progress and the number of users.

Safety Action Team: Increase public awareness of transportation options though walk to school events, education classes between road users, Crosswalk Safety Day, and a Don’t Text and Drive campaign.
