East Side Elementary Gets Almost All Children To School; Has Attendance Celebration

  • Thursday, April 30, 2015

As visitors walk down the halls of East Side Elementary early in the morning, quite often they will hear the song Happy by Pharrell Williams playing, which means every teacher in the building is present and it is going to be a "great day of teaching and learning."

Another thing visitors will hear as they walk down the halls of East Side Elementary is an afternoon announcement given by principal Stephanie Hinton, congratulating individual classrooms by name with 100 percent attendance, and more often than not she will announce entire grade levels with 100 percent attendance.

East Side Elementary has been working on a goal of having 100 percent of the students present, and when that day came, Mrs. Hinton reminded students they would have a big party.  There are 619 students enrolled at the school.

The students came pretty close, with only one percent absent, so the school celebrated with an ice cream party .
