Inaugural Morgan County Mountain Laurel Walks To Begin

  • Tuesday, May 12, 2015

The beauty of the Mountain Laurel takes center stage during the Morgan County Mountain Laurel Walks May 16 through June 6 in Wartburg, Rugby and Morgan County.

The official kick-off of the multi-week series of planned walks and events begins with the Mountain Laurel Walks Festival 10 a.m.-3 p.m. May 16 at the Morgan County Visitor Center in Wartburg. The festival includes live music, food, local artisans and crafts persons displaying their talents and offering them for sale, plus many other activities which should appeal to all ages.

Also included is the Mountain Laurel 5k Benefit Run/Walk which will start 8 a.m. inside Frozen Head State Park.

To capture the beauty of the Mountain Laurels at its peak, 24 trails in Morgan County have been highlighted for visitors to enjoy. The trails are open every day, however guided walks will be available throughout the 22-day optimum blooming period.

Designated trails will be found in The Big South Fork River and Recreation Area, Obed Scenic River, Frozen Head State Park, Lone Mountain State Forest, Pickett State Park and the Cumberland Trail Scenic Walking Trail. A photography competition from images captured along the trails is being held in conjunction with the celebration.
