Discussion Of Flannery O’Connor’s A Prayer Journal Is Tuesday

  • Wednesday, May 20, 2015

The Southern Lit Alliance and Theology on Tap will host a panel discussion of Flannery O’Connor’s A Prayer Journal on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Camp House.

It will be a discussion of O’Connor’s "deeply spiritual" prayer journal, recently discovered among her papers in Georgia. Written between 1946 and 1947 while Ms. O’Connor was a student at the University of Iowa, A Prayer Journal is a glimpse into the private interior life of a great writer. It illustrates Ms. O’Connor’s relationship with the divine and shows how her literary desire was intertwined with her yearning for God.

The panelists this evening include Professor John Grammer, director of the Sewanee School of
Letters, Professor Robert MacSwain of the Sewanee School of Theology, and Jamie Quatro,
best-selling author and contributing editor of the Oxford American.

The Camp House is at 149 E. ML King Blvd. in downtown Chattanooga.

The Southern Lit Alliance supports readers and writers in the South with literary programs and outreach. For more information visit www.SouthernLitAlliance.org
