Joe Davis, 36, Killed In Auto Accident In Dalton Thursday Morning

Joe Davis, 36, of Rocky Face was killed in a car accident in Dalton on Thursday morning. 

The Dalton Police Department responded to the crash at approximately 7:30 a.m. on Highway 41 at Willowdale Road. Two cars were involved. One of the cars hit the front door of the GQ Spa near the crash site causing some damage to the building. 

A red 2001 Honda Civic was traveling southbound on Highway 41 when a burgundy 2004 Mercury Mountaineer driven by Spring Smith, 21, of Knoxville, ran the stop sign at Willowdale Road and hit the Civic in the driver’s side door. The impact sent the Civic spinning into the GQ Spa building.  Nobody in the building was hurt. Ms. Smith told investigators that the brakes on her vehicle failed. 

The driver of the Civic, Mr. Davis was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger, Amelia Shipman, 33, of Rocky Face, was airlifted by Life Force to Erlanger in Chattanooga, and her condition is unknown at this time. Another passenger, Jeff Dean, 39, of Chatsworth is in intensive care at Hamilton Medical Center in Dalton. 

The crash backed up traffic on Highway 41 for approximately an hour.

The crash is being investigated and at this time no charges have been filed.
