Shame On The Housing Authority - And Response

  • Saturday, May 23, 2015
With Chattanooga and other cities around the nation struggling to find solutions to chronic homelessness it's cruel to evict families likely with children over a fight.

When you evict the adults you're also evicting any and all children in the household.  Intelligence would dictate looking for a root cause. Compassion would dictate looking for alternatives. Both seem to be missing here.

Maybe the fight is the excuse for eviction and not the reason.

I commend the Chattanooga Housing Authority for the stance they have taken against those residents that participated in the Brawl last week.
One reader wrote in to say they were wrong to evict these residents because they have children, I beg to differ - the residents were wrong to fight for the very reason - because they have children.

Parents have to realize that we are setting examples for our children and in a sense we are teaching them how to act whether bad or good they are watching. When you decide to have a child your life is no longer your own. You are obligated to this child for a lifetime although some think it's only to age 18. It's for a lifetime.

I'm sure the Housing Authority has a clause somewhere in the lease that the residents sign that makes them aware up front that if you get caught fighting or if the police are called to your residence your lease can be terminated. In this age of video recording everything that you even think about doing is subject to being posted to Social Media so it's best that you keep everything legal and in good taste.
