Michael DeWayne Thurmond, 51, of Chattanooga, died on Friday, June 26, 2015.

He was born July 10, 1963 in Chattanooga. Mr. Thurmond was preceded in death by his mother, Faye Thurmond.

Mr. Thurmond was with Bi-Lo for 35 years and was the store director of the Dallas Bay Bi-Lo. His greatest joy was spending time with his only daughter, Beth and his grandson, Miller. He was an avid Alabama Football fan and he enjoyed playing golf. Whenever he would enter, he lit up the room and loved making people laugh.

Survivors include his daughter, Beth (Matt) Sweatman; grandson, Miller Sweatman; fiancée, Kim Warren father, J.C. (Mary) Thurmond; sister, Tammy (Randy) Long; niece, Jessica Long; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 2, at 1 p.m. in the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the New Home Cemetery in Henagar, Al.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 1, and from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Thursday.
