Advisory Panel Reviews Integrated Resource Plan Comments, Recommendations

  • Tuesday, June 9, 2015

The Tennessee Valley Authority’s Regional Energy Resource Council will meet June 16-17 in Knoxville to review recommendations on TVA’s updated Integrated Resource Plan.

The IRP is TVA’s plan for meeting regional energy needs over the next 20 years. A staff recommendation will be made to the TVA board of directors in August.

The agency released a draft IRP in March and hosted a series of public meetings around the Tennessee Valley to explain the plan and receive comments.

Joe Hoagland, vice president of TVA Stakeholder Relations, said the council is expected to discuss the IRP’s plans to provide TVA with a diversified portfolio of energy sources that are cleaner, lower cost and have high reliability.

The Regional Energy Resource Council, established to advise TVA on its energy resource activities and priorities, will provide the board with the council’s own recommendation on the IRP later. The new IRP will replace a version adopted in 2011 to reflect such industry changes as greater availability and lower prices of natural gas, and lower overall demand for electricity.

The entire two-day meeting will be open to the public. The meeting is scheduled from 1-4:45 p.m. on Tuesday, June 16, and from 8:30-11:45 a.m. on Wednesday, June 17. The public listening session will open the second day. The session will be in the West Tower auditorium at TVA headquarters in Knoxville.

Interested speakers can register at the door by 8:15 a.m. on Wednesday. Handout materials should be limited to one printed page. TVA will accept written comments mailed to the Regional Energy Resource Council, TVA, 400 W. Summit Hill Drive, WT-9D, Knoxville.

Those who have special needs who wish to attend the meeting need to contact TVA immediately at 1- 865-632-6113.
