Red Bank Elementary Makeover Calls For Volunteers

  • Thursday, July 23, 2015

Earlier this year Red Bank Elementary received an anonymous grant to turn their library into a makerspace.  Plans include input from teachers, students, parents, and community members. When the space is complete, students will have the opportunity to create with Lego on a Lego wall, to watch as gears cause motion as they turn a crank, to compose music and video in a production studio, to prepare meals and snacks in a kitchenette, and to curl up and get carried away with a great book.

One of the school goals is to provide innovative teaching and learning integrated with the arts and technology and this space will allow that, said officials.

The funding will not accomplish everything planned and the school is relying on the community for support. Several students and teachers stated that they wanted a space that “doesn’t look like school” and officials are beginning with the physical space of the library.

Painting ceilings and furniture has begun and volunteers are needed with help for other pieces of the project. Both skilled and unskilled labor is needed. Painting, light construction, and materials donations are needed at this time. Any businesses participating or donating will receive a plaque, local advertising and professional photographs.

To participate or for more information, contact the school office at 874-1934.
