Miss Tennessee Valley Sydney Shadrix
The Scenic City Pageants will proceed on Saturday afternoon at the Chattanooga State Humanities Theatre but not before a tribute to the five military personnel who died last week less than a mile from the Amnicola Highway campus.
Chuck Patrick from Silverdale Baptist Church and vocalist Mishana Paris will lead the tribute starting at 4 p.m. honoring the deceased United States Marine Corps Gunnery Sergeant Thomas Sullivan, USMC Staff Sergeant David Wyatt, USMC Sergeant Carson Holmquist and United States Navy 2nd Class Specialist Randall Smith who were attacked at the nearby U.S. Naval and Marine Reserve Center.
Tickets for the event which also serves as the local preliminaries for the Miss Tennessee Pageant are $15 each and will be sold at the door only.
The Scenic City program has produced three of the last four Miss Tennessee winners including current titleholder Hannah Robison who won the state crown last month in Jackson. Miss Robison who competed as Miss Scenic City, Miss Chattanooga Stephanie McKain who was the fourth runner-up at the state pageant and Miss Tennessee Valley and top 16 state finalist Sydney Shadrix will crown their successors. Following Scenic City tradition, the contestant list is not revealed until show time, but the success of the local program attracts entrants statewide who make the journey to Chattanooga for the event.
Miss Tennessee 2012 and former Miss Chattanooga Chandler Lawson will be the pageant emcee.
The three women chosen to serve as the Misses Chattanooga, Scenic City and Tennessee Valley will be the official local representatives to the 2016 Miss Tennessee competition and will also make numerous appearances around the area which are expected to increase as the community heals from the recent tragedy.
