The Chattanooga High School for Creative Arts has been designated a 2015-2017 Exemplary School by Arts Schools Network, the nation’s largest professional membership organization of specialized arts schools. In addition, CCA has been named a 2015 National School of Distinction by Magnet Schools of America. MSA is the national association of magnet and theme-based schools.
ASN Executive Director Kristy Callaway said, "The designation was created to highlight a school’s commitment to excellence and is presented to an ASN member school in recognition of its efforts to evaluate strategically its purpose, operations and educational programs. ASN is a non-profit professional organization dedicated to excellence and leadership in arts education. Its mission is to provide leaders in arts schools with quality resources support and networking opportunities."
Officials said, "As a Magnet School of Distinction, CCA is recognized for its commitment to high academic standards, curriculum innovation, school diversity and integration, specialized teaching staff, and parent and community engagement."
MSA Executive Director Todd Mann stated, “Merit awards are given to our highest quality theme-based schools and programs. They are models of success and represent the best in public education.”
CCA Principal Debbie Smith said, “CCA is a haven where arts and academics share center stage. CCA nurtures both the artist and the scholar through its all-encompassing approach to individual responsibility, respect for the arts, and critical thinking.”
According to Mrs. Smith, CCA’s 600 students in grades 6 through 12 receive both pre-professional training in the arts and rigorous college-preparatory academics. CCA was founded in 1998.
CCA prospective students audition in an arts major: visual arts, dance, vocal music, instrumental music, acting, communications or musical theatre. Once admitted, they receive intensive training in their arts majors and experience arts integration throughout the academic curriculum. CCA produces more than seventy public performances and exhibits on campus each year.
Although students have been accepted for the 2015-2016 school year, auditions for 2016-2017 will take place in early 2016 and are open to all students in Hamilton County. Applications will be available beginning in November 2015 for the 2016-2017 school year.
CCA is the only fine arts magnet school in Hamilton County.
