Lung cancer screening is a test to look for signs of lung cancer in otherwise healthy people.
Physicians use computerized tomography (CT) scan of the lungs to look for lung cancer. When lung cancer is detected at a very early stage, it may be more likely to be cured. With more than 150,000 people dying from lung cancer per year, this CT scan has shown to improve survival by 20 percent according to The National Lung Screening Trial (NLST) by the National Cancer Institute (NCI). Insurance may cover CT lung cancer screenings.
