The Cleveland State Community College Foundation, on behalf of the CSCC Technology Department, was awarded $50,000 from the Denso North America Foundation to fund capital investments for Competency-Based Denso Manufacturing Training.

This grant will provide equipment and tools that will provide educational opportunities for students to learn through using “real world” industry processes. The increase of new technologies is making it a challenge for current and new employees to learn the new processes and for training providers and manufacturers to train the increasing number of candidates necessary to fill such positions. This equipment and learning tool upgrades will help ensure that current and future technology students develop a strong applicable skill-set in Cleveland State’s classrooms, labs and training sites. In addition, through CSCC’s increased ability to prepare students using automated and precision technologies, manufacturers will also benefit from a more qualified selection pool and workforce, said officials.

“Denso Manufacturing has always been a strong advocate for training a skilled labor workforce,” stated Tim Wilson, Technology Department chair. “I am grateful they have awarded this generous gift to our college and we are committed to being good stewards of those funds in training individuals in the skills needed in the marketplace.”

These capital investments will be used to enhance the training capabilities of students in the following Cleveland State degree/certificate programs:  Electro-Mechanical Concentration: Industrial Technology, AAS, Electronics Concentration: Industrial Technology, AAS, Mechanical Maintenance Fundamental Technical Certificate and Electrical Maintenance Fundamental Technical Certificate.

Students working with automated manufacturing machines in these fields will gain a better understanding of the production process and also gain familiarity with real world applications, said officials. The ability for students to interface in the classroom and labs with the tools and equipment they will be expected to use within their careers helps save time on the front end of the learning curve. It will also allow educators to address students’ questions and provides for the students’ transition into their future employment lessening the time it takes for the manufacturer to benefit from employee productivity after hire.
