Morning Pointe Seniors Host Back To School Drive To Help Students Prepare For Successful School Year

  • Monday, August 24, 2015

Residents from all three Morning Pointe communities in the Chattanooga area are always looking for new ways to lend a helping hand and give back to the greater community. In addition to all the adventurous outings and activities residents participated in this summer, a lot of brainstorming was done by Morning Pointe seniors as they worked together to come up with a unique way to contribute to the community.

It didn’t take long before a lightbulb went off and a project was created.

Morning Pointe of Collegedale at Greenbriar Cove put on a School Supply Drive and residents, family members and friends donated all kinds of brand new school supplies to benefit Channels of Love Ministries in Chattanooga, a non-profit, non-denominational, Christian ministry that serves people infected with or affected by the HIV/AIDS virus. Residents were pleased with the amount of goodies collected to help students kick of the new school year.

“This time of year, we always focus our attention on all of the kids starting school,” said Lead Life Enrichment Director Holly Holcomb. “Our seniors love doing whatever they can to make a difference and with school starting back, it made sense to help the students kick off the school year with some brand new school supplies.”

Residents from the Chattanooga Lantern also came up with the idea to host a Back to School Drive for the students at Bess T. Shepherd Elementary. They are accepting any school supply donations to contribute to the school, especially cleaning supplies such as antibacterial cleaning wipes, paper towels, hand sanitizer, etc. Printer paper and tissues are also greatly needed. They will be collected items until September 25 and those wanting to participate in the drive can drop off donated items with the receptionist at the memory care community, located at 7620 Shallowford Rd, Chattanooga, TN 37421.

Morning Pointe of Hixson is also hosting a Back to School Drive for their neighbors at Hixson Middle School and will be collecting supplies until September 25. All donations can be delivered to the assisted living community, located at 5501 Old Hixson Pike, Hixson, TN 37343.

Already the amount of items donated to each of the assisted living communities shows what a wonderful connection Morning Pointe has with the greater community and the enormous amount of love and kindness found in Chattanooga. Making sure every day is meaningful while creating ever-lasting memories is what Morning Pointe residents do best.
