The "Dalton State of Mind" concert, featuring several music groups from around North Georgia, is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 21 at 7 p.m. on the Burran Bell Tower quad in the heart of the Dalton State Campus. It is free and open to the public. Concert goers are invited to bring blankets and lawn chairs. In case of inclement weather, the concert will be moved to Bandy Gym.

The “Dalton State of Mind” concert is about celebration. “This concert feels like a big party,” said Dr. Ellie Jenkins, assistant professor of music at Dalton State, who is organizing the event. “It’s a celebration of accomplishment and the beginning of a new venture.”

Dr. Jenkins and many others in the North Georgia area are celebrating the addition of an associate of art’s degree with a concentration in music that has recently been added to the programs offered at Dalton State.

“I couldn’t be more excited about this new music degree,” she said. “It has been a long time coming, and a lot of people have worked very hard to make it a reality. I think this will be an amazing event. I hope events like this can become a regular happening at Dalton State.”

The Dalton State Singers and the Dalton-Whitfield Community Band, both part of the music program at Dalton State, will perform. Others performing include the 8th Regiment Band Georgia Volunteer Infantry, the Roman Festival Brass, and the Rome Area Flute Ensemble.

This is the first of several free concerts scheduled for Dalton State this semester.  Others include: Adrin Akins, a countertenor, on Oct. 8 at 7:30 p.m. in Goodroe Auditorium; The L’Abri String Ensemble on Oct. 22 at 7:30 p.m. in the Goodroe Auditorium; a sacred harp singing on Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. at Dalton State; The Dalton-Whitfield Community Band on Nov. 12 at 7 p.m. at Northwest Whitfield High School; and the Dalton State Singers on Dec. 1 at 7:30 p.m. in Goodroe Auditorium.
