Trumpeter Tina Erickson Performs At Brainerd Presbyterian On Sunday

  • Tuesday, August 4, 2015

Brainerd Presbyterian Church, 1624 Jenkins Road, will host regionally acclaimed trumpeter Tina Erickson on Sunday at the 11 a.m. service.  She has played twice in special Christmas presentations at the church.

Dr. Tom Hammett, music director, said, "I have heard Tina play a number of times with the Chattanooga Symphony and with selected ensembles around the city.  I don't know of a more exciting trumpeter anywhere.  Her performance of 'The Trumpet Shall Sound' from Messiah last season with Chattanooga State Chorus, Symphony Chorus and Orchestra was as brilliant and creatively interpretive as ever played.  We look forward to her inspirational music at Brainerd Presbyterian Church."

Ms. Erickson will play three selections: "Hyfrydol Aspects," "Softly and Tenderly," and "Exsultate, Jubilate: Alleluia."

Review on Ms. Erickson:
Tina Erickson has a varied and diversified career in the trumpet world. She has taught in New Hampshire, Connecticut, Ohio, Louisiana, Michigan and Tennessee. She currently teaches at The University of Tennessee in Knoxville and at Chattanooga State. She has also taught at Lee University, Bryan College, and UT Chattanooga. Her playing experience has covered everything from playing with Shari Lewis's Lambchop to Mahler Symphonies and all things in between. She currently performs with the Knoxville and Chattanooga Symphonies and Mr. Jack Daniel's Original Silver Cornet Band. When not playing and teaching, she can be found making Blackburn Trumpets in Decatur, Tn., where she has been on staff (actually, the entire “staff”) since 1988. She lives in Athens, Tn. with her dogs Ajax, Fern and Eldon, none of whom enjoy the trumpet in any way. (Not even a little bit.)
