September Commission Meeting To Be Held In Nashville

The Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission will meet Sept. 17-18 and set the commercial fishing regulations for the coming year.

The meeting will be held at Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency’s Region II Ray Bell Building. Committee meetings will start at 1 p.m. on Sept. 17 while formal session is Sept. 18 beginning at 9 a.m. In addition, the TFWC budget committee will meet from 9-11 a.m. on Sept. 17 in the TWRA headquarters conference room. The public is invited to attend.

The commission heard the proposed regulations presented by the TWRA at its Aug.

21 meeting held in Morristown. The commission also was presented the sport fish regulations recommendations at the August meeting. The sport fish 2016-17 regulations will be set during the October meeting in Chattanooga. A comment period for the sport fish proposals continues until Oct. 5.

The first segment of the state’s dove hunting season began Sept. 1. An update of the opening segment will be given by Mark Gudlin, acting chief of the Wildlife and Forestry Division.

Roy Grimes, president of the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) will be at the meeting to review the TWRA’s support and work at the 2015 World NASP tournament held in Nashville in late July. TWRA Information and Education Division Assistant Chief, Don Crawford, will give a brief presentation on the latest statistics for NASP.

The TWRA’s longest serving employee, Jim Elkins, has decided to retire from the Agency after 65 years of service. Mr. Elkins worked in the Engineering Division and will be recognized at during Thursday’s committee meetings.
