Hamilton County Youth Soccer Receives $42,500 From Scenic City Cup Profits

  • Friday, September 18, 2015

The Local Organizing Committee for the Scenic City Cup youth soccer tournament distributed $42,500 to four soccer organizations in Hamilton County. The SCC, held May 2-3, is an annual tournament organized and hosted by an LOC made up of the Chattanooga Sports Committee, Chattanooga Football Club Academy, East Ridge Futbol Club, North River Soccer Association, and Redoubt Soccer Association.

“All of these great organizations came together to create the SCC in an effort to maximize the potential of a community soccer event. The 2015 event had an impressive $1,000,000 estimated economic impact in Hamilton County. It was successful due to the incredible vision and teamwork of the LOC. It was a privilege to work with all of them and to be able to give money back to the community,” said Tim Morgan, president of the Chattanooga Sports Committee.

This money was distributed to the Chattanooga Football Club Academy, East Ridge Futbol Club, North River Soccer Association, and Redoubt Soccer Association. “This economic support allows us to keep our costs down for our players and make repairs to our fields without impacting our youth families,” said Greg Love, president of Redoubt Soccer Association.

The Scenic City Cup began in 2013 and has grown annually. Bill Spake, Board Member of the Chattanooga Football Club Academy and East Ridge Futbol Club said, “In 2015, we hosted 183 teams which made it the largest soccer tournament in East Tennessee. We’ve worked hard to put on a good event offering great competition for teams of all levels. All three facilities that we used – Camp Jordan, North River and Redoubt – do an outstanding job every year.”

The goal of the LOC is to keep youth recreational soccer affordable and allow the sport to grow throughout Hamilton County. “The comradery of the members of the LOC is refreshing. It is also a reminder that our community is stronger when working together as a team,” said Mark Harrison president of North River Soccer Association.

In addition, this Tennessee State Soccer Association sanctioned tournament provides a great opportunity for college recruits to be seen by some of the top college soccer coaches in the region.
