Members of Pickin and Grin’n, who volunteer every week at Life Care Center of Hixson, have received the Tennessee Health Care Association’s 2015 Group Volunteer Award. This award recognizes the group or organization that best exemplifies the spirit of volunteerism in the nursing home setting.
For 19 years, this group has provided musical entertainment for the residents. Despite having their own physical challenges, the members of Pickin and Grin’n play guitar and banjo and sing at the nursing home every Thursday. In addition to their weekly visits, they also perform at special events.
Representatives from Pickin and Grin’n accepted the award Sept.1 at a special luncheon during THCA’s Convention & Trade Show in Nashville, where individuals, groups and facilities were celebrated for their outstanding accomplishments in long-term care. Awards are presented annually in a variety of categories, from volunteer of the year to distinguished association service.
“Our Awards of Excellence winners are extremely dedicated to creating the best possible environment for Tennessee’s nursing home and assisted living residents,” said THCA Executive Director Jesse Samples. “It is a great honor to recognize their achievements and the examples they set for the entire long-term care profession.”
