Jan Charles Haluska, 73, of Collegedale, died on Friday, September 25, 2015.

He was born in San Francisco, California, on December 17, 1941, the only child of Charles and Lois Haluska. Jan was a graduate of San Rafael Military Academy and served three years in Germany with the United States Army. He was a founding member of the Desmond Doss American Legion Post 257.

Jan's great passion was teaching. After seven years at Georgia-Cumberland Academy in Calhoun, Ga., he completed his Ph.D. in English from UTK and taught at Southern Adventist University for 33 years, ending his career as department chair before retiring in 2014.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Marcia Opstad Haluska, sons, Aaron (Jessica) and David (Mindy), and grandsons, Nathan, Joshua, and Seth Haluska.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 3, at Collegedale Seventh-day Adventist Church, with visitation beginning at 3 p.m. and a memorial service following at 4 p.m. Interment will be in Collegedale Memorial Park.
