Georgia Northwestern Hosts Breast Cancer Awareness Event, Tri-Match

  • Monday, September 28, 2015
What started as a way to give back to their communities has now turned into a tradition for Georgia Northwestern Technical College’s Intercollegiate Athletic programs. The Lady Cats Volleyball program hosts a tri-match Oct. 3 to benefit Breast Cancer Awareness.

“This is the third year the women’s volleyball squad has held the event,” said GNTC Athletic Director David Stephenson. “And, between the men’s and women’s basketball programs, we’ve been doing this event for six or seven years now.”

Welch College out of Nashville and Bryan College (JV) from Dayton will make the trip to the Rossville Athletic Complex on Saturday, Oct.
3 for an 11 a.m. start.

Donations for the Mary Ellen Locher Breast Cancer Foundation will benefit the Mary Ellen Locher Breast Center of Excellence in Chattanooga. Gifts to the foundation can be made at the gate at Saturday’s event. Northwest Georgia’s Battlefield Imaging will also be on hand to share information and help educate both men and women on what they need to know right now about breast cancer.

“We’ll have the gymnasium decked out in pink for the event,” said Mr. Stephenson. “We’re just proud to be able to do whatever we can for these communities in which we work and live in every day.”
