Mocs Volleyball At Wofford Tuesday

  • Tuesday, September 29, 2015
The Chattanooga Mocs volleyball team hits the road Tuesday to Spartanburg, S.C., to face Wofford at 7:00 p.m. (E.D.T.). UTC is 13-2 for the first time since 1986 and looks to improve its nine-match winning streak.

"The team isn't taking our success for granted," head coach Travis Filar stated. "They're continuing to do the little things and working hard to have more success. We have to keep fighting whoever is next."

As of Sept. 27, UTC is nationally ranked seventh in digs per set (17.28), 15th in assists per set (13.39), 19th in hitting percentage (.272) and 25th in kills per set (14.11).
The Mocs lead the Southern Conference in those categories.

UTC is coming off two wins in the SoCon opening weekend. The squad defeated UNCG (3-1) and Western Carolina (3-0).

Chattanooga earned conference weekly honors offensively and defensively for Sept. 21-27. Junior Allie Davenport (Tyrone, Ga.) was named Offensive Player of the Week, and senior Catherine Chason(Alpharetta, Ga.) won the defensive award.

Davenport led the offense last weekend with 15 kills against the Spartans and a personal season-high of 17 versus the Catamounts.

"We need to impose our will," Davenport said. "I think a lot of our wins have to do with us and not the other team, so if we play our game, we'll be fine."

Chason led the Mocs' back court, recording a season-high of 37 digs facing UNCG and 14 against Western Carolina. She is currently ranked No. 62 out of NCAA Division I players in digs per set (4.70).

Sophomore Lauren Greenspoon (Houston, Texas) racked up 93 assists over the two matches, totaling 621 on the season. She is tied for 10th nationally in assists per set with 11.50.

The Terriers are 7-9, coming off two five-set loses. Last week the squad lost 22-20 in the final frame to USC Upstate and 15-13 in the fifth to the Catamounts. Sophomore outside hitter Bella Santora earned her seventh double-double. She recorded 16 kills and a career-best 26 digs versus the Spartans, and 18 digs and a season-high 17 kills against Western Carolina. Senior libero Jessica Graham posted two 30-dig performances in the Terriers' last two matches.

There is set to be live stats and video for the match. Links can be found on the volleyball schedule page at GoMocs.com.

The Mocs return home for a matchup with Mercer Friday at 6:00 p.m. in Maclellan Gym.
