Art Exhibit Features Cartographic Illustrations

  • Tuesday, January 19, 2016

An exhibit featuring Southern Adventist University Fine Art assistant professor Marc Boyson’s collection of cartographic illustrations will open at 6 p.m. on Thursday at the John C. Williams Art Gallery located on the second floor of Brock Hall on campus. The gallery showing will run through Feb. 22.

Mr. Boyson is an MFA graduate from the University of the Art in Philadelphia, Pa. He participated in a group show FRESH 2013 Emerging Artist Exhibit and Juried Member Exhibition 2014 at the Association of Visual Arts in Chattanooga.

The exhibit, titled “There and Here…Reprise,” reveals the cartographic trace through memory, invention, and the GPS recording of Boyson’s commute. Works on paper, projection, and ceramics reveal the sublime in his everyday movement through space. “The question I seek to answer through memory, intuition, and digital recording is: How can I manifest the banal act of the cartographic trace into the beautiful,” Mr. Boyson said.
