John Allen

John Thomas Allen, born October 24, 1933, died suddenly of natural causes on September 23, 2016, to be joyfully reunited with his sister, Janie Allen Kenyon, his parents, Everett and Olive Allen, and his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

He is survived by his brother-in-law, John Kenyon, and his six nephews and nieces, Jane, Brian, Cam, Allen, John, Betsy, and their families, including his 22 great-nieces and nephews and great-great-niece and nephew. We are thankful for the way Uncle John lived his life and brought us joy.

John graduated from Baylor School, Wheaton College and Columbia Theological Seminary. He served as a pastor for more than 40 years in Carthage and Vicksburg, Ms. After retiring in 1998, he lived in Hixson.

John loved to play the piano, grow and arrange flowers and welcome guests into his home. He faithfully and lovingly sent birthday and greeting cards to dozens of friends and relatives every month. John loved his friends, neighbors, Panera group and Morning Pointe staff and residents, all
of whom were so good to him. His family is very grateful for all of you.

Of greatest importance in John’s life was Jesus Christ’s great love for him. John delighted in studying and teaching the Bible. It was his calling and great privilege to be a pastor and to help us understand God’s saving grace, mercy and blessings in our lives.

A celebration of John’s life will held at Second Presbyterian Church, 700 Pine Street, Chattanooga, Tn. on Saturday, Oct. 8, at 2 p.m. with an opportunity to visit with family following the service. In lieu of flowers, it would please John greatly if you would donate to the organ fund at Second Presbyterian Church.

Arrangements are by Hamilton Funeral Home & Cremation Services; 4506 Hixson Pike, 423 531-3975.
