18th Annual J.D. Powell Memorial Golf Tournament Raises More Than $14,000 For GNTC Students

More than $14,000 was raised to provide funding and financial aid to Georgia Northwestern Technical College students during the 18th annual J.D. Powell Memorial Golf Tournament held at Barnsley Resort in Adairsville on Tuesday. 
 
The tournament was sponsored by the Foundation at GNTC. James Derward Powell served as the president of GNTC from 1987-1994.
 
Teams that participated included: Bank of LaFayette, Cedarstream, Coca Cola, Dalton Utilities, Five Star Food, Flegal Insurance, Fox Systems, Georgia Power, The HON Company, International Paper, Jay LeGrande Team, Miura America, Mohawk Industries, Nesbitt Consulting, Rehab Techniques, Powell Team, Ringgold Telephone Co., Southeastern Mills, Team 507, and United Community Bank.

Powell Memorial Golf Tournament was divided into two flights and prizes were awarded to the first place teams in each flight.
 
1st Flight - 1st Place
Rehab Techniques, consisting of: Michele Randall, Keith Randall, Jeff Bennett, and David Pledger.
 
2nd Flight - 1st Place
Jay LeGrande Team, consisting of: Mitchell LeGrande, Charles Pinkard, Bobby Hitchcock, and Chuck Wright.
 
Kevin Black won “Closest to the Pin” and Andreas Gjesteby won “Longest Drive.”
 
Special guests playing in the tournament included members of the Powell family: Blake Cescutti, Charlie Powell, Jim Powell, and Tripp Powell.
 
There were four Tournament Sponsors: Fox Systems, Inc.; The HON Company; Mohawk Industries, Inc.; and Shaw Industries Group, Inc.
 
Proceeds raised from the tournament will be used to provide scholarships and financial assistance to GNTC students. The foundation also assists with purchasing equipment for programs, providing training for faculty and staff, and furthering marketing and public relations efforts.
