Tessa Lark
String Theory will present the second concert of its 2016-17 season on Tuesday, Nov. 29, at 6:30 p.m. featuring Tessa Lark, violinist, and Jason Vieaux, guitarist, at the Hunter Museum of American Art.
Founded in 2009 by pianist and Artistic Director Gloria Chien, String Theory brings acclaimed chamber musicians from around the world to perform in the intimate setting of the Hunter Museum in Chattanooga. Chien is a Steinway artist and an artist-in-residence at Lee University.

The evening’s performances will include works by Piazzolla, Tarrega, Jobim, Bustamante, deFalla, Metheny, and Kreisler.
Prior to the concert, “Musical Dialogues” will take place at 6 p.m. from the concert stage. Dr. Chien will lead an in-depth conversation with Ms. Lark and Mr. Vieaux on their lives, inspirations, and the masterpieces being performed at the concert.
Ms. Lark, Silver Medalist of the 2014 International Violin Competition of Indianapolis, is acclaimed as one of the most charismatic artistic voices of her time. She received first prize in both the 2008 Irving Klein International Strings Competition and the 2006 Johansen International Competition for Young String Players.
Ms. Lark has performed with the Louisville Orchestra, the New England Conservatory’s Symphony Orchestra, and the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, among others. She is a member of the Caramoor Virtuosi and has participated in the Music in the Vineyards Festival, the Wadsworth Chamber Music series, and Caramoor’s Rising Star Series.
In addition to her busy performance schedule, Ms. Lark has also served on the faculty of the Great Wall International Music Academy in Beijing, China.
Grammy-winner Mr. Vieaux is described by National Public Radio as “perhaps the most precise and soulful classical guitarist of his generation.” His solo recitals have been a feature at every major guitar series in North America and at many guitar festivals in Asia, Australia, Europe, and Mexico. During the 2016-17 season, Mr. Vieaux will make appearances with more than a dozen symphony orchestras throughout the United States and Canada.
Mr. Vieaux has earned a reputation for putting his expressiveness and virtuosity at the service of a remarkably wide range of music. His most recent solo album, “Play,” won the 2015 Grammy Award for Best Classical Instrumental Solo.
In 2011, Mr. Vieaux co-founded the guitar department at The Curtis Institute of Music, and in 2015 was invited to inaugurate the guitar program at the Eastern Music Festival. He has taught at the Cleveland Institute of Music since 1997, heading the guitar department since 2001.
Individual concert tickets are $30 for Hunter members, $40 for non-members, $10 for students with a valid student ID, and $25 for groups of 20 or more people. Season subscriptions are available for $160 for Hunter members and $210 for non-members.
