Hixson Family Displaced After Fire Damages Home

A Hixson family of eight will be spending the holidays away from their home due to a fire at their residence on Wednesday.

At 10:03 a.m., a 911 call was made reporting a house fire at 311 Delores Dr. The Dallas Bay Volunteer Fire Department responded and reported heavy smoke and fire coming from the right side of the home. Firefighters worked quickly to contain the fire to the one room.

The homeowner, Keith Hartman, said his grandson awoke him telling him the playroom was on fire. Three adults and five children escaped the home without injuries.

Fire officials reported damages listed at $3,000. The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time.

The American Red Cross responded to assist the family with their immediate needs.
