Matthew Young
Lee University honored Matthew Young with the 2016 Department of Communication Arts Distinguished Alumnus Award.
“Matthew embodies all the positive characteristics we could want from a Communication Arts alumnus,” said Mary Dukes, senior lecturer in communication. “He was a committed, talented student who demonstrated solid leadership skills and a servant’s heart. He has continued to demonstrate those attributes in his professional career. We are fortunate to have him as a representative of our department.”
Mr. Young is the director of international communications at ABB, a company that works to engineer new technology.
He graduated from Lee with honors in 2002 before going on to earn his Master of Arts degree in management and organizational communication from Emerson College.
Mr. Young said that because “the business world has change and disruption at every turn, the most important thing a communication degree at Lee taught [him] was how to learn.”
During his time at Lee, Mr. Young was involved with Student Leadership Council, Lambda Pi Eta Communications Honors Society, and Alpha Chi National Academic Honors Society.
He has previously worked in corporate communication positions at Dean Foods, Hanesbrands, Inc., BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee, Emerson College, and Progeny Marketing Innovations.
Mr. Young was unable to attend the department breakfast during Homecoming to accept the award, but he is planning a trip to campus to accept it in person.
