Tennessee American Water Awards Firefighting Support Grant To West Valley Volunteer Fire Department

Tennessee American Water has awarded a $500 grant to the West Valley Volunteer Fire Department in Marion County.  The grant is part of Tennessee American Water’s new Firefighting Support program to provide financial assistance to uniformed, professional and volunteer fire departments.

“This year’s wildfires are a reminder of the importance of our firefighters,” said Tennessee American Water’s Sequatchie Valley Supervisor Michael Griffith. “The grant program helps our first responders to have the tools and training they need to be ready to protect our communities.”

West Valley Volunteer Fire Department will use the grant for an upgrade of their current training room.

Eligible grants were awarded to cover the costs associated with the following:

·         Personal protective gear

·         Communications equipment

·         Firefighting tools

·         Water handling equipment, or

·         Training and related activities/materials used to support community fire protection (Reimbursement for specific fire training classes, including training manuals and workbooks, is eligible)
