Hsin-I Guo will perform in the Kaleidoscope Concert Feb. 26

Performers from the UTC Music Faculty will be joined by the UTC Chamber Singers for a Kaleidoscope concert featuring a colorful mix of music, on Friday, Feb. 26, at 7:30 p.m. in the Cadek Recital Hall.

Just as a kaleidoscope presents a new design each time it is turned, the Kaleidoscope Concert No. 1 at UTC will offer continually changing performance forces in each program selection. UTC Music Faculty members Erika Schafer (trumpet), Hsin-I Guo (piano), Rebecca St. Goar (soprano) Linda Pennebaker (oboe), Perry Ward (baritone), and Jonathan McNair (composer) will be joined by the UTC Chamber Singers and Chattanooga Singers, directed by Kevin Ford. Duos and solos by Barat, Chopin, Vaughan Williams, and McNair will begin the program, and the choral ensembles will offer a variety of selections including a spiritual arranged by Roland Carter.

Admission is free, as is parking in the garage behind the Cadek Hall building. This venue is wheelchair accessible.

For more information contact the UTC Music Department at 425-4601 or visit www.UTC.edu/Music

Program: Erika Schafer, professor of trumpet and assistant director of bands, will perform the Fantasy in E-flat for trumpet and piano, accompanied by Ms. Hsin-I Guo.

The Ballade in G minor by Frederic Chopin will be performed by Ms. Guo, who is Visiting Instructor of Piano this year at UTC.

Dr. Rebecca St. Goar, soprano, will be joined by oboist Linda Pennebaker in three songs by English composer Ralph Vaughan Williams. These songs are settings of poems from the Songs of Innocence by William Blake.

Baritone Perry Ward, accompanied by Ms. Guo, will perform the Nocturnal Songs composed in 2015 by Dr. Jonathan McNair. Five poems by American poet Walt Whitman were chosen as the texts for these warm, lyrical songs.

Finally, the UTC Chamber Singers and Chattanooga Singers, directed by Dr. Kevin Ford, will offer an arrangement by the renowned Roland Carter, from a recent CD release of Prof. Carter’s works, plus a jazz-influence selection, and a romantic choral work by Charles V. Stanford.
