Joyner, Gilbert Named Players Of the Week

University of Tennessee at Chattanooga junior Jasmine Joyner (Southaven, Miss.) was named the Innovative Office Solutions Southern Conference women’s basketball Player of the Week for the second straight week, the league office announced today.
 
Joyner averaged 14 points and 9.5 rebounds in the Mocs wins over Furman and Wofford at home last week. She was 13-of-22 from the field, making 59.1 percent of her attempts. Against the Paladins, she shot a scorching 9-of-11 (81.8%) from the floor, playing all 40 minutes and recorded her sixth double-double of the year with 19 points and 14 rebounds while recording five blocked shots.
 
Two days later, the nation’s leading shot blocker matched her school record with eight against the Terriers, giving her 96 on the year.
She played just 31 minutes in the contest scoring nine points with five rebounds. She had four assists in the game with no turnovers.
 
Joyner averages 4.17 blocked shots per game and has helped the Mocs to a nation’s-best 6.7 per game. She leads the Mocs with12.5 points and a SoCon-best 9.2 rebounds per game. She is shooting 45.8 percent from the field and has started all 23 games for UTC at center.

KEIANA GILBERT NAMED COLLEGE SPORTS MADNESS SOCON PLAYER OF THE WEEK
 
University of Tennessee at Chattanooga sophomore guard Keiana Gilbert (Pulaski, Tenn.) was selected the Southern Conference Player of the Week by College Sports Madness.
 
Gilbert averaged 13.5 points in the Mocs’ back-to-back home victories over Furman and Wofford and had 10 rebounds. Against the Paladins, she had 14 points, making 4-of-9 from the field. She set a career-high mark from beyond the 3-point line making 3-of-4 in the game. She dished out five assists and had two blocked shots in the win.
 
Two days later, she helped the Mocs to their 40th consecutive home court Southern Conference victory with 13 points, seven rebounds and a career-high five steals. She shot 45.5 percent (5-11) from the field and made both free throws.
 
Gilbert is second on the team in scoring with 12.0 points per game and has 5.1 rebounds per game. She is second on the team in blocked shots, steals and assists. She ranks ninth in the league for points and fourth in field goal percentage (44.7%).
