The National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP), will be the subject for the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency’s June Nature at Noontime program.
The program will be held on Thursday, June 2, from noon-1 p.m. at the TWRA’s Region II Ray Bell Building located in the Ellington Agriculture Complex.
Don Crawford, TWRA assistant chief for Information and Education and the state’s coordinator for NASP, will present the program. NASP has seen tremendous growth since being introduced in the state as a pilot program in 2004, beginning with 12 schools. More than 350 schools now participate.
NASP is a two-week curriculum taught during school that teaches International Style Target Archery. A state tournament is held each year and in 2015, the NASP World Championships were held in Nashville.
There will be a blow-up archery target set up for an opportunity to give archery a try following the presentation.
Hosted by the Information and Education Division, Nature at Noontime is held the first Thursday of each month with the exception of July. TWRA Nature at Noontime presentations are about natural resources related topics and last about 30-45 minutes, allowing time for discussion during the allotted lunch hour.
