  • Thursday, July 14, 2016

The 42nd Swiss Celebration, sponsored by the Grundy County Swiss Historical Society, will be held on the grounds of the Stoker-Stampfli Farm Museum in Gruetli-Laager, Tn. on Saturday, July 30 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

The farm is one of only a few buildings remaining of the original Swiss Colony of Gruetli.  Music will be provided under the pavilion by the Musik Meisters, a group which plays German Polka style music in Nashville, and the Bazzania Band, an all-female group from Sewanee.

There will be hay rides, buggy rides, and tours of the farm house, barn, and other out buildings, dating back to 1869.  Vendors will have food, crafts, and information on area organizations, as well as displays of old farming tools and accessories.  Guests will find a yard sale, historical documents, books and memorabilia will be on sale at the membership stand.

"Come and join us for a day of Celebration and taste a little wine and cheese," organizers said.  "Become a member and support the preservation of a Swiss farm dating back to 1869 when a group of Swiss immigrants came to America to seek a better way of life."

Donations can be sent to P.O. Box 496, Gruetli-Laager, Tn. 37339.  For more information or to sign up as a vendor, call Jackie at 931-235-3029, or Brenda at 931-800-9617, or email jackie@swisshistoricalsociety.org.

The Stoker-Stampfli Farm Museum is at 328 Swiss Colony Cemetery Road. Take Highway 108, north on 20th Ave. and follow the signs.
