Work Set To Get Underway To Convert Gold Building To Westin Hotel; Chestnut Street To Get New Streetscaping At Developer's Expense

  • Wednesday, July 6, 2016

Work is set to get underway at the long-idle Gold Building on Pine Street to convert it into a Westin Hotel.

The icon glass building was designed by well-known Atlanta architect John Portman.

City officials said developers Ken and Byron Defoor plan to contribute $850,000 toward streetscaping of nearby Chestnut Street.

City Councilman Chris Anderson said, "Chestnut Street in that section right now does not look so good. The Defoors want to make it an attractive entryway.

The Gold Building was vacated by BlueCross BlueShield with the move to Cameron Hill.
