Lula Lake To Host 3rd Annual Founder's Weekend

  • Tuesday, August 30, 2016

Lula Lake Land Trust will be hosting its third annual Founder’s Weekend Oct. 1-2. Founder’s Weekend was created in 2014 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the land trust and to honor Robert Davenport and his family, whose dying will established and protected Lula Lake Land Trust.

Founder’s Weekend 2016 is set to be the largest celebration thus far. Lula Lake Land Trust will be open Saturday and Sunday for hiking, biking, and picnicking, but will also host special daytime activities such as yoga, Tai Chi, nature walks, and history tours. New for 2016 are special nighttime events including a film festival on Saturday, Oct. 1 and a wine walk Sunday, Oct. 2.

“We’re hoping to offer multiple ways families can enjoy the full weekend, day or night. I think Robert Davenport would be very proud of how we’re using the land today to get people out and enjoying nature in different ways,” said Mike Pollock, executive director of Lula Lake Land Trust.

For Saturday’s film festival, Lula Lake is partnering with Lookout Wild Film Festival to bring a selection of five short films. The films focus on outdoor adventure and conservation and subject matter ranges from forgotten mountains and lost coasts to recycled skateboards. A donation of $10 per person is suggested for film festival entry. Beer, wine, drinks and snacks will also be available for purchase.

Sunday’s Wine Walk will feature wine tastings from around the world provided by Riverside Wine and Spirits paired with heavy hors d’oeuvres from Dish T’Pass Catering. Tickets are $40 per person in advance and $50 at the gate. Tickets and valid I.D. are required for entrance to the Wine Walk. Tickets may be purchased at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/founders-weekend-wine-walk-tickets-27169707326.
