Lula Lake Land Trust Working With Tennessee Aquarium To Keep Rock Creek Fish Healthy

  • Friday, August 5, 2016
The Tennessee Aquarium Conservation Institute (TNACI) is helping Lula Lake Land Trust document, understand, and better conserve Rock Creek and the aquatic creatures that inhabit its waters.

Lula Lake Land Trust officials said, "So far, TNACI has helped us build an inventory of fish, hellgrammites, and macroinvertebrates that live in Rock Creek.  Understanding what species we have on our preserve helps us know the health of the creek and the land that surrounds it.

"Last week, TNACI also helped us facilitate an Adopt-a-Stream training and certificate course.

About a dozen local educators, students, and activists participated in the training and learned how to chemically and biologically test for water quality as part of a national program.  Lula Lake Land Trust and TNACI will continue the partnership throughout the year on several different projects including the pollinator garden, additional water quality testing, and overall creek restoration."
